From Logs to Homes; A Circular Economy
The journey from logs to homes focuses on delivering high-performance housing through the use of modular construction. Built with Mini Cross-Laminated Timber (MiniCLT), these homes are designed to provide durability, comfort, and environmental responsibility while supporting Mt Pokaka’s commitment to community well-being. This process exemplifies a circular economy, ensuring that resources are utilised efficiently and the benefits flow back to the local community. This approach includes:
Local Timber Utilisation: Timber sourced from Northland’s forests is processed in our Kerikeri mill, where it is transformed into high-quality engineered timber products that form the foundation of our homes.
Offsite Manufacturing and Efficiency: Modular sections are constructed in our housing factory using Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles. This approach reduces waste, improves quality control, and shortens on-site build times, creating efficiencies and cost savings while minimising environmental impact.
Community Integration: Once completed, the modular homes are transported to site for final assembly, a process that takes only a matter of days. Many are returned to the very communities where the timber was originally sourced, supporting local economies and reinforcing the connection between the land, resources, and people.
